The Fugger Kunsthof is a new space for contemporary artists, located at Schloss Wellenburg, just outside of Augsburg, on the edge of the Westliche Wälder Forest. Schloss Wellenburg is a castle that dates back to the 12th century, and which has belonged to the Fugger family since 1595.
The Kunsthof invites artists to live and work in a unique historical setting, surrounded by nature and cultural heritage. Our focus is on providing artists what they need, whether it simply be time and space away from their usual routine, or support on a particular project. We are open to working with artists on their specific needs and wishes, but loosely offer two residency formats:
1. 'Traditional' Artist Residency: 1–2 months residency for visual artists in all media, which includes studio, accommodation, and opportunities for public engagement.
2. Outdoor Sculpture Residency: shorter in duration, this 1-3 week intensive residency is focused on developing a proposal for the Kunsthof’s nascent sculpture park in the surrounding forest.
